I believe if this country went into another depression, Americans would kill each other for what the others have and chaos would erupt. Why are Americans so careless and heartless to the needs and concerns of other americans? Is it true, its all about sex and money?

In my city there was a gas shortage for a couple of days. People waited in line for hours to get gas. There were numerous fist fights and threats of violence, a gun was pulled in one circumstance, the police had to monitor gas stations to ensure people were civil to one another.
Just imagine what people will be like if there is a food shortage.
I think the Joker summed it up best in the new batman movie:
"when the chips are down, these uh... civilized people, they'll eat each other alive."
At the end of the day - we are animals that need resources to survive and when the **** hits the fan we will fight each other to survive.
Sounds like a misconception of Americans to me. Americans actually come together at times of great need. When Hurricane Katrina hit, many Americans went to great lengths to help New Orleans. Americans know how to come together and help one another so I don't know where you got your information from.
There is already great wealth disparity in this country. Why do you think anything would change if everyone's standard of living were lowered? If anything, people come together in times of adversity.
It's extremely ignorant to say that every single American would or does behave in a certain way. This is a country of over 301 million people. That makes for a great number of different beliefs and behaviors.
That being said, I think it really comes down to human nature. Some people are selfish and self-centered, and some people are giving and care about everyone, not just themselves. You'll find that everywhere in the world, not just in the US.
