The only players to score a goal in all nine MLS seasons:
Mark Chung
Chris Henderson
Jason Kreis
Jaime Moreno
Steve Ralston
Scored in each of the first eight seasons, but not this year:
Cobi Jones
Jesse Marsch
Brian McBride
Preki
We're now officially down to five.
Of the four who were eliminated, three (McBride, Preki, and Marsch) went down without registering a shot on goal. In his 90 minutes of action, Preki put two shots off frame, while Marsch played 681 minutes without an attempt.
Cobi, the fourth to fall out, is in illustrious company at the opposite end of the spectrum...
Most shot attempts without scoring, 2004
1. Antonio de la Torre, Rapids -- 29 (7 on goal)
2. Chad Marshall, Crew -- 24 (10 on goal)
3. Damarcus Beasley, Fire -- 23 (6 on goal)
4. Cobi Jones, LA -- 19 (6 on goal)
5. Simon Elliott, Crew -- 18 (4 on goal)
Survivor Steve Ralston finished the year with 7 goals in only 25 shot attempts. This mark is even more impressive considering that he had only 11 shots on goal, although it does include two PK attempts, both of which were successful.
Ralston and Moreno are the youngest guys on the list at 30, so probably one of them. I guess I'll go with Ralston, since he seems less likely to have a major injury, or get bored and retire.
A good opinion question is:
Who will be the last player to keep that streak alive?
Mark Chung
Chris Henderson
Jason Kreis
Jaime Moreno
Steve Ralston
Scored in each of the first eight seasons, but not this year:
Cobi Jones
Jesse Marsch
Brian McBride
Preki
Well, scratch the last two, for sure.
