I recently upgraded to version 1.7 after running the Geos anti-spam version of 1.5. I ran that version for a year or more and never had a single spam comment.
Now, after upgrading to 1.7, I'm getting a dozen or more a day. Sure, denfensio is catching most of them (along with one or two legitimate comments), but I still have to deal with them in my inbox.
What was different about Geos's version that worked so well?
I'm using the delicious 1.1 template, I'm using defensio instead of askimet, and I have tokens enabled.
I have not recieved a single email or spam in my comments area. I use Defensio with the Token. When I checked my MySQL database with phpmyadmin. There were 100's of spam messages, meaning Defensio with the is very very effective. My 2 cents.

Or wait till tomorrow when I upload it to extend section.

At least Akismet is not sending an email on spam-suspicious comment ;-)
Defensio is said to have a new routine of spam detection and provides you with some statistics. But Akismet is working fine too, you just have no stats about the spam.
We offer both in the package so our users have a choice using the one that fits better to their needs. You just have to take the choice :-)
Furthermore, check the spam control settings in Admin Options. There are Pixelpost's built-in span controls which are performed before demanding Akismet or Defensio. What is cought by those internal mesures will never make it into your database.
I strongly recommend the use of the Token.

I too have recently upgraded having used Akismet before without any spam problems. Now with Defensio installed I'm getting 100's of spam comments everyday and while Defensio is catching them I'm getting 100's of emails generated. Can anyone advise me what I can do?
