Require business name for an online retail shop

Welcome to:enart.hzrn.com

  • Starting up an online retail shop which initially will sell books, dvds and audio cds. In the future going to be expanding to computer parts and who knows what else. The name needs to be fresh/bright/fun, catchy and easy to remember. Wanted names which were similar to google/amazon, which do not actually have a direct relationship/meaning to the business type. Also considered adding "online" to the name. We also looked at playing with the names of the two partners (Mark and Max) and did come up with "marmax online" however found it not smooth or as easy to remember as the likes of google. The target audience/clients are going to be both sexes between 16 through to 40s, majority will be quiet computer-literate and in the middle+ income bracket. The differences that we want to demonstrate from other online shops are that: a. Low price b. High value through customer service (ie quick response to queries, etc) c. Easy to use website (ie neat) d. Wide range of products

  • Hello there In most any lifetime, the years between 16 and the 40s can certainly be a pandemonium. And when we consider what this particular forum is about, it is often "Pandemonium Online." - - Just ask anybody here. Of course I left your target years behind long, long ago. Because of my rapidly approaching senility, one of the first things I have to do when signing in, is get the cobwebs out, otherwise everything I attempt would simply be "Cobwebs Online," which would leave my customers in a state of being "Dazed Online." Since you don't want the name to reflect your business, I will try "Everything in My Power Online" to avoid that. That is how some of us keep our "Online Attitudes" bright and cheerful. Once in a while we get a little pushed out of shape by the non-researching commenters. Many of them actually think they are excellent examples of "Humanity's Image Online." But we know better, don't we? Some of them seem to think that if they can create "Palpable Environs Online," we will take them more seriously. Not necessarily so. They seem to emerge from some "Unique Universe Online" or even a "Unique Online Universe." One of them was even a "Goofyfoot," but he wasn't online. Perhaps some of these people who comment will creat a whole "New Genre Online" and advance to being actual researchers. Now you mentioned Amazon and we all know that the Amazon flows through a real "Cyberswamp," meandering its way past computer-literates, some of which are not necessarily "Quiet Online," and many are so noisy and confusing they seem to always wind up creating a "Braided World Online," giving many of them swelled heads as large as "Coconuts," which is an agricultural product of the googling, blurbeling, Amazon basin, leading us to the creation of "Run-on Sentences" to try and explain it. Now that I have told you a little about us, I will try and list a few names for your consideration. "Pandemonium Online" "Cobwebs Online" "Dazed Online" "Everything in My Power Online" "Online Attitudes" "Humanity's Image Online" "Palpable Environs Online" "Unique Universe Online" "Unique Online Universe" "Goofyfoot" "Cyberswamp" "New Genre Online" "Quiet Online" "Braided World Online" "Coconuts" "The Run-on Sentence" Most of these can be used either with or without the "Online" tag at the end, though some such as Pandemonium, Humanity's Image and Palpable Environs sound much better with it. If I am getting close, or even if not getting close, just point me in some new directions and we will keep going. Search - with this kind of question, none. Terms - negotiable If I may clarify anything before you rate the answer, please ask - online. Cheers digsalot

  • Hi, one of our main requirements is that the name needs to be simple (ie short, easy to spell, and no fancy spelling such as using "-", etc). Also names of more than 2 words are out of the question. The coconuts one is warm as it is quiet easy to remember and simple, however its has a too strong of a association to fruit/nuts, I mean it does not have any secondary meanings. The cobwebs one is also quiet good, however it does not have that flowing/catchiness and the sharpness/strength. If you could think of any others based on the above suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hello Again Actually the "--" quotes are not part of the name, and the word "online" following each one is of course optional. I started typing out that little 'story' in an effort to see what would emerge. It is an old trick I've used in the past to find names for/ or to remember/ things of my own. Such indirectness when trying to come up with something often gets the mind out of a rut that direct line thinking sometimes creates. I had an anthropology professor drum that method of thinking into my head for a whole year. "Cobwebs" is sort of a double play between 'fuzzy thinking' and mental clarity as in the mind traps ideas, much like a cobweb and spins its own 'mental webs.' Now that we have a dialogue going, will your business be specializing in any particular type of books, CDs, etc, or will it be general in nature? Will your material be mostly educational or more for entertainment? For example, if philosophical works are your main concern, then we could head in that direction when creating names. History would take us down another path and general works, yet a third. This is when answering this kind of question really begins. First responses can only be loose in nature since the initial question is usually quite general in nature. As I learn more details from you, then we can begin to narrow things a bit. The above list is of course on the general side of things. "Palpable Environs" is the name of a small combination book shop and cafe I once considered opening near the UCLA campus but I never did get to the point I could afford the rents on Westwood Blvd. It would have had good midwestern style cooking too. Something to satisfy Buckeye transplants to the environs of Southern California. So, while I am working on more names in the 'generalist' theme, if you could get back to me with any specialties you might be considering, it would help. Cheers digs

  • Hi, at the begining the specialisation will in professional industry books (ie IT books, etc). Soon after this focus will expand to include the entertainment area (your typical CDs, DVDs, etc) and IT hardware/software. Cheers

  • Thanks for the additional information. Since you will be doing this as an online service, I will also check on whether related domain names are available for what we come up with. I will be back within 24-48 hours. digs

  • I would not worry about the domain search as we can do that, we would you rather invest that time into the name creation :-) Cheers

  • I just responded in order to pull the clarification 'red flag' down. I'll skip the domain search and concentrate on names. I have a few now and am still working. P.S. - the clarification "red flag" means that until a clarification is answered it flashes a special notice on ours and managements screens. :) digs

  • Hello - back again Since you are eventually going to offer general merchandise, I have kept things along that line. You may add the word "online" following any of them if you want. Bookbytes Books&bytes Book Mosaic - - - - - - -(similar to below, except it connotes an 'assemblage' of books. Also since books are a major part of your line, it gets the name included in the title which has value for an online search. The work "mosaic" also has certain application to types of software giving somewhat of a computer connection as well. ) Mental Mosaics - - - - - (as in the mind assembling bits and pieces of information to create a whole picture) Mind Web - - - - - - - - -( simply another play on the word cobwebs from above) Mindwebs Mindspice - - - - - - - - - (spice or spark up the thinking process a bit - - - mental seasoning) Humanities Image - - - - (I am bringing this one down from above minus the " marks and the word "online." It does have a certain power to it.) TomeTeazers TomeTown TomeEncounters Mental Rendezvous You mentioned something above about a "warm" sound. Most anything with an amimal as part of the name can create that warm cozy feeling while avoiding the connotations you objected to with "coconuts." I'm avoiding anything with fruits and nuts. TomeCats - - - - - - ( of course a takeoff on tomcats since from what I can judge by the names, both partners are male) TomeCatBytes - - - - ( once again related to the male partnership, more aggressive tomcats and 'puters - not really one of my favorites, but I included it anyway) Catbytes - - - - - - - - ( sometimes I just don't know when to quit) BookBunny - - - - - ( or BookBunnies ) Brainy Doormouse - - (has a good sound preceeded with the word "The" but that takes it up to three words) Bookittens Bookish Guppy - - - - (another one that sounds better with the word "The" in front of it. Or a good name for an aquaruim supply store in a library :-) Guppybytes GigaBooks MakMax - - - - - - - (sort of a little barking sound, easy to remember, and uses letters from both names) Makar - - - - (also uses letters from both partners names. As far as its significance, it is a festival in India It falls on the 14th of January every year according to the Solar Calendar. This day has a very special significance because the day and night on Makar are of exactly equal hours. It could symbolize an equality in partnership as well as a return to the light. The "light" would be the educational materials you will be offering. An explanation for the name could even be included on your home page as a bit of added color. The full name of the festival is Makar Sankrant ) I don't know how close any of these are getting. As you know it is a rather subjective question and a subjective response. If you want to point me in other directions, just let me know. I have the time if you do. Cheers digs
