There have been 78 own goals in MLS history, including this year. Every current team has received at least 5 own goals, but one team has benefited more than any other. That team is DC United, which has received 12 own goals, outpacing the Metrostars who are second with 8.
DC has received 3 own goals this year, one of the top single season marks, along with San Jose's 2002 team, which also had 3. The MLS record is four in one season, not surprisingly also going to DC, in the 1998 season.

I don't like the way deflections are called own goals so often in soccer. If a ball deflects off the keeper its usually not an own goal, so why so when off a defender? Even when a defender clears it in the goal, if it was going in anyway I don't think it should be an own goal. I'd be ok with crediting the last offense player to touch the ball in all cases.
Clearly part of the pro DC/MET/LA policy of MLS if you look at the stats above. I smell a conspiracy.
With the way MLS is generous in giving out goals for calls that should be own goals, this number should be bigger.
